What Is a Name Generator?

A name generator is a tool that mixes word lists and patterns to suggest names you might never come up with on your own. Here is how ours work — and why running them in your browser matters.

How a name generator works

Under the hood, a generator holds pools of words (adjectives, nouns, prefixes, syllables) and a set of patterns like “adjective + noun” or “prefix + core + suffix”. Each time you click generate, it randomly fills the patterns to produce fresh combinations. Add a keyword and it can weave your topic in.

Tips for picking the best name

Generate at least 15–20 ideas, shortlist 3–5 favourites, then check handle and trademark availability before you publish. For podcasts, our podcast naming guide walks through the steps; for bands, see the band naming guide.
